Treatment Offered at Ayur-Care
1. Panchakarma Therapies:
Vamana: The objective of the therapy is to induce vomiting to get rid of the accumulated toxins in the form of Kapha.
Indication: Therapeutic Emesis is used for cough, cold, symptoms of asthma, fever, nausea, loss of appetite, anemia, poisoning, skin diseases, diabetes, lymphatic obstruction, chronic indigestion, oedema (swelling), epilepsy (between attacks), chronic sinus problems, and for repeated attacks of tonsillitis.
Virechana: Virechana is the cleansing of the Pitta and the purification of the blood toxins.
Indication: Virechana is used for treatment of skin diseases, chronic fever, piles, intestinal worms, gout, jaundice, gastrointestinal problems, constipation, and irritable bowel syndrome.
Basti: Basti involves introducing medicinal substances such as oil, or other herbal decoctions in a liquid medium into the rectum.
Indication: Basti is especially good for disorders of Vata such as constipation, distention of abdomen, sexual disorders, backache, neck pain, sciatica, arthritis, rheumatism, and gout.
Nasya: This procedure involves installation of medicated oil, ghee or herbal juices into the nostrils. As per principles of Ayurveda, it eliminates the toxic materials accumulated in head and neck region.
Indication: Nasya can be used in treating problems of ear, eyes, nose, and throat disorders such as migraine , sinusitis, bronchitis, and dryness of the nose, hoarseness, convulsions and certain neurological disorders.
Rakta Mokshana: Blood letting is used to eliminate toxins that are accumulated in the bloodstream. This process purifies the impure blood. In general, blood letting is done by using leeches.
Indication: It is used for disorders such as repeated attacks of skin disorders like urticaria, rash, eczema, acne, scabies, leucoderma, enlarged liver and spleen, and for gout.

Abhyanga
A massage with specific herbal oils to nourish and revitalize the body tissues and to allow the toxins to be removed from the cells, Abhyanga has much deeper and more far reaching effects than an ordinary massage. It is performed symmetrically by two therapists and is usually followed by a medicated steam bath (Sweda). It is one of the most rejuvenating treatments of Ayurveda.
Duration: Abhyanga and steam bath, 1- 1 ½ hrs.
Indications: Increases tissue strength, improves blood circulation, rejuvenates the whole body, nourishes the skin, delays aging, induces sound sleep, promotes vitality, and reduces stress. It is beneficial in disorders like arthritis, other joint injuries and various skin diseases.
Sweda
Sweda otherwise called as sudation therapy is done by using special herbs specific to the ailments of a person. It opens the pores and flushes and cleanses the system through the skin. Its effect is enhanced when taken after Abhyanga.
Duration: 20-45 mins.
Indication: Reduces body pain, eliminates toxins, promotes lightness, reduces stiffness and useful in various joint and neurological disorders.
Elakizhi (Patra Pinda Sweda):
It is a type of sweda, in which fresh leaves of herbs are fried with other herbal ingredients, tied into boluses, dipped into warm medicated oil and applied all over the body for specific time. Usually it is applied after Abhyanga.
Duration: 50- 60 min.
Indication: Chronic back pain, loss of function of a part or whole limb, joint stiffness and swelling, muscular pain, sciatica, spondylosis, sprain, cramps, anti-aging and rejuvenation.

Mukhabhyanga (Facial): It is a soothing massage and packing done over face using medicated perfumed oils or paste of herbal powders.
Duration: 30-45 min.
Indication: Keeps away wrinkles, relaxes the face muscles and stimulates the micro-circulation of the blood in the face. The massage gives the skin a smooth texture and appearance and improves muscle tone.
Shiroabhyanga: It is a soothing massage of the head, neck and shoulder using warm herbal oils.
Duration: 15-20 min.
Indication: Insomnia, cooling to the eyes, headache, removes dandruff, nourishes both hair and hair roots. Profoundly soothing and relaxing.
Padaabhyanga:
It is a very stimulating massage of the lower legs and the feet to activate the acupressure points.
Duration: 10-15 min.
Indication: Induces deep sleep, improves luster of the skin, smoothens cracked skin of the feet, relieves tiredness of the feet, helps in preventing (or treating) varicose veins and also reduces swelling and soreness in the lower leg region.

TALAPODICHIL : An herbal paste is applied to the entire head.
Duration: 30- 45 minutes.
Indication: Headache, depression, hyper active conditions, burning sensation in the eyes, insomnia and skin disorders.
SHIROPICHU: Medicated oil is applied to the head in a special manner.
Duration: 15-45 min.
Indications: Facial palsy, headache, insomnia, improves memory, dermatitis of the scalp, dandruff, other neurological disorders such as paralysis, skin disorders such as eczema.
Kati Basti: A special technique aimed at providing relief to the lower back using warm medicated oils by retaining them in the lower back for specific period.
Duration: 30- 45 min.
Indication: Chronic and acute backaches, prolapsed disc, lumbar spondylosis, osteoporosis, sciatica.
Janu Basti: Here warm medicated oils are retained over both the affected knees.
Duration: 30- 45 min.
Indication: Pain of knee joint, osteoarthritis of the knee joint and ligament injuries.
Greeva Basti: Retaining warm medicated oil or herbal decoction over the nape region for a specific time.
Duration: 25-30 min.
Indication: Cervical spondylosis, chronic pain in the neck region, compression.
Navarakizhi (Shastika Shali Pinda Sweda):
It is a type of Sweda, in which a special type of rice is cooked, tied into boluses, dipped into a herbal decoction and warm milk, and then skillfully rubbed all over the body after the Abhyanga.
Duration : 1- 1 ½ hrs.
Indication: Paralytic strokes, body ache, emaciation, debility, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, muscular dystrophy, anti-aging and rejuvenation, strengthening of the tissues.
Sarvangadhara/Kayaseka (Pizhichil):
Medicated oil is poured over the body in continuous streams while being gently massaged by four therapists. Extremely soothing and relaxing, it is administered after Abhyanga.
Duration: one hour.
Indication: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Increases Immunity, Anti-aging & rejuvenating, Alleviates the burning sensation in the body, Ensures better circulation, helps to recover from paralysis.
SHIRODHARA:
A continuous stream of medicated warm oil/ buttermilk is poured onto the forehead, using a special rhythmic swaying movement, for a specific period, as decided by the physician. This procedure often creates profound relaxation of the mind and body. It relaxes the central nervous system. Shirodhara gives the best results when taken after an Abhyanga.
Duration: Usually 45 min.
Indications: Anxiety, depression, epilepsy, hypertension, diabetic neuropathy, hemiplegia, paraplegia, insomnia, pre-mature graying of the hair / hair loss and mental retardation. It is highly beneficial in overcoming stress and strengthens the sensory organs.
Shiro Basti:
A special technique of retaining the medicated oils using a special apparatus over the head.
Duration: 45 min.
Indication: Anxiety, facial paralysis, insomnia, neurological disorders, psychological disorders, stress and skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis.
Udvartana:
This is a specialized herbal treatment for weight reduction. A herbal paste or powder is applied all over the body and deeply massaged with specific movements by two therapists.
Duration: One hour.
Indication: Toning the skin and muscle, obesity, imparts good complexion to the skin, revitalizes the sense of touch.
Netra Tarpana :
Tarpana is a special treatment in which the medicated oil or ghee is retained in the orbits of both eyes for specific duration.
Duration: 20- 30 min.
Indication: Relieves the strain due to constant glaring at the computer and TV screen, refractive errors of the eyes, corneal ulcer, dry eye syndrome and glaucoma. It helps in preventing cataract, improper co-ordination and loss of movement of the eye balls, pain and burning sensation in the eyes.
Talam: A herbal paste with oil is applied to the head.
Duration: 15 min
Indication: Insomnia, gives cooling effect to the head, improves eye sight, and relieves headache.
Ksheeradhuma: This comprises a fomentation with medicated cow milk.
Duration: 10-15 min
Indication: This treatment is good for facial paralysis, Bell's palsy, speech disorders and other nervous disorders of the face.
Hair Pack: Application of herbal paste with specific liquid bases over the head.
Duration: 20-30 min
Indication: Hair fall, gray hair, head aches, loss of sleep and neurological problems related with head and eyes.
Aphrodisiac treatments: These are the treatments done for couples to improve their sexual appetite and enhance performance. It may involve any of Panchakarma therapies as the case may be, and specific oral dosage forms.
SHAMANA [PALLIATIVE TREATMENTS] :
After detoxification of accumulated toxins by appropriate Panchakarma therapies, the physician may prescribe herbal or mineral remedies to correct remaining imbalances if any in the body.
All the procedures are done under the supervision of expert physician. The medicines thus prescribed may be in the form of a tablet / a kashaya / a lehya/ a churna/ a oil or any other such substance suitable to the condition. Along with the medicines, we advise you on lifestyle, diet and exercise.
